Introduction to Alcala

On the coast, close to Playa de las Americas, Alcala is the perfect hideaway for those seeking tranquillity without being far removed from a buzzing, bigger resort. Small and sedate, there's little happening here to disturb the peace, so it's just right for those seeking to take it easy and experience a slice of traditional Canarian life.

Set into a rugged coastline, this sleepy place is really a picturesque Canarian fishing village. When you're not idling here, stroll the palm-dotted seafront, sit and watch the colourful little fishing boats land with their hauls of fresh fish and simply let your cares slip away as you gaze out to the neighbouring island of La Gomera - the views are stunning, especially just as the sunsets.

There's a small sprinkling off quiet eateries serving Canarian and international dishes, as well as the local seafood catch of the day, plus friendly bars and shops selling holiday necessities and local crafts. When you fancy picking up the pace, there's the pull of Playa de las Americas, a short distance away. With its exciting dolphin-watching trips, electric nightlife, countless bars and restaurants to tempt you it's the place to head for non-stop fun and action. For beachlife, people head to the pebble and sandy coves and beaches dotted along the coastline. However, for serious beachlife and non-stop action, Playa del las Americas where stunning sands await is again a popular and lively hotspot.

Night-times in La Caleta continue in the relaxed, laid-back mood. All along the coastlie and around the harbour you'll be spoilt for choice with the good sprinkling of local and international restaurants and late-night bars providing sociable stop-offs for evenings out.

Fancy a day out?, Day trips from here are plentiful too, with the charming whitewashed town of Candelaria, pretty inland villages and the breathtaking volcanic peaks of Teide National Park all easily accessible.
