Once Corfu's party capital, this pretty east-coast fishing village has now quietened down, making it a perfect haven for chilled-out holidays. Despite its past status as a neon-lit mecca, it's retained much of its olde-worlde character, with cobbled lanes and picturesque whitewashed houses coiling up from its scenic fishing harbour. Around here, you'll find numerous friendly tavernas, souvenir shops and bars, and regular boats and buses run to Corfu Town for sightseeing and shopping. On the edges of town, a lovely Blue Flag pebble beach washed by luminous waters promises lazy days in the sun and when you feel like exploring, there's even the remains of a Roman villa to potter around. After dark, some lively music bars and pubs light up the waterfront but for quieter evenings, the little backstreet tavernas will oblige too.
