Introduction to Lourdas
Boasting a fabulously long beach, Lourdas is one of Kefalonia's best spots for sun- and surf-worshippers.
On the south coast overlooked by Mount Ainos, the sands and pebbles here extend for four kilometres, curling around a bay and brushed by dazzling waters. When you feel energetic, there are watersports like paragliding and jet-skis, plus a scattering of beach tavernas for those all-important refreshments. It's a steep walk back to the resort, which centres on a lovely, tree-shaded square lined with tavernas, bars and shops. At dusk, the easy-going pace quickens thanks to a selection of lively music bars catering for night owls, but things never get raucous. And when you fancy an outing or two, Kefalonia has many gems to take in, from romantic Sission monastery and spectacular Myrtos Beach to Melanissi's luminous, lake-filled cave.
