Introduction to Kalamaki
Renowned for its terrific beach, this relaxed, family-focused resort lies on the flat plains of Zante's southern coast near bustling Laganas. Its incredibly long beach is frequented by rare loggerhead turtles and offers honey-gold sands and warm shallows ideal for children, although motorised watersports and nighttime strolls along the shoreline aren't allowed to protect the nesting turtles. The fast-growing resort centre is set back from the beach and has a blossoming number of friendly tavernas, shops and British-style eateries, although the atmosphere stays fairly low-key day and night. For livelier evenings, take off to the local hilltop disco or Laganas' exciting dancespots and during the day, hop on one of the many boat and bus trips to the spectacular rocky cliffs at Keri or colourful Zante Town to enjoy its many shops and hillside fortress.
