Introduction to Addu Atoll

Also known as Seenu Atoll, Addu is the most southerly and least touristy of the Maldives' island groups, and 90 minutes by plane from Malé.

Composed of long, frond-shaped islands connected by roads and encircled by radiant Indian Ocean waters, the beaches here are breathtaking, with exquisite white sands fringed by palms and shallow lagoons of piercing turquoise. The atoll is renowned for its unspoilt reefs and dive sites, making it heaven for scuba-lovers and snorkellers, and when you're not under water, skim over the waves on a windsurfing, sailing or fishing trip. Otherwise, strike out on your own, exploring your island and its neighbours to find charming villages, authentic markets and deserted, pristine beaches. And come dusk, order ice-cold cocktails and settle on the sands to watch the tropical orange sun sink into the sea.
