Guide to La Palma Accommodation and Travel
Introduction to La Palma
Known as 'La Isla Bonita' to locals, meaning 'the beautiful island', you will not be disappointed by this stunning, peaceful and most importantly, unspoilt destination. This is the place to be if you want absolute calm and tranquility, somewhere that unlike most other Canary Islands, has avoided an influx of mass tourism and has maintained its natural beauty. La Palma's breathtaking sights include that of La Caldera de Taburiente, a national park containing an enormous expanse of a large crater, dominating the Northern part of the island; and places to visit such as the Astronomical Observatory, which offers equally as stunning views, being in a location that is considered to be the world's second best sight for astronomy. The magnificent volcanoes are also not to be missed, and you can even go on a 7-hour excursion by foot to investigate these wonders.
However, if you are more of a sun-worshipper than a keen walker, there are still plenty of sandy strips of volcanic beach for you to spread out on, or if you prefer, lots of intimate, cosy coves
